16 January 2026
We're upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, new traffic management technology, Melbourne's first express busway and a seamless connection to North East Link.
What we're doing
We've been working between Elgar and Tram roads to divert the Koonung Creek and make space for new noise walls, express lanes and improved walking and cycling paths.
From Wednesday 28 January, to support the protection of the existing Koonung Creek sewer pipe and progress construction of the new Koonung Creek, we’ll need to relocate the water treatment facility and remove some trees and vegetation within our work areas on the northern side of Paul Avenue.
Works will include:
- trimming and removing vegetation and approximately 20 trees within our work area under the supervision of a qualified ecologist and arborist
- earthworks to build the new temporary water treatment facility
- installing concrete structures to protect a realigned Koonung Creek
- start piling and concreting works for the new noise and retaining walls next to Paul Avenue.
When we're working
- Day works - 6am to 7pm from Monday to Friday and 7am to 3pm Saturdays and Sundays
- Night works - some night works may be required between 8pm to 5am Monday to Friday, we'll speak to residents about planned night works ahead of time.
Please note that these dates and times are subject to change.
What to expect
