Upcoming works – Tram to Springvale roads

We're upgrading the Eastern Freeway between Tram and Springvale roads, with new express lanes, upgraded entry and exit ramps, smart traffic technology and a connection to North East Link — slashing travel times and improving travel in Melbourne's east.

What we're doing

Between Tram and Middleborough roads we're continuing earthworks to create space for new walking and cycling bridges and elevated freeway ramps.

Before major construction begins on these above ground structures, we'll undertake piling works in Eram Park to build a strong foundation.

We're also continuing works to realign a section of the Koonung Creek and relocate power and sewer services.

When are we working?

Day works: 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 1pm Saturdays.
Night works: 7pm to 6am at times Monday to Sunday

We use water carts, noise blankets and street sweepers wherever possible to reduce dust, mud tracking and noise while we work. We'll be in touch with impacted residents regarding specific times for construction activities.

Upcoming disruptions

Eastern Freeway closed citybound between Middleborough and Elgar roads from 10pm, Monday 18 May to 5am, Tuesday 19 May.
Eastern Freeway closed Ringwood-bound between Elgar and Middleborough roads from 10.30pm, Tuesday 19 May to 5.30am, Wednesday 20 May.
Middleborough Road, Blackburn Road and Springvale Road citybound entry ramps closed from 10pm, Friday 12 June to 5am, Monday 15 June.
Sections of the Koonung Creek Trail will close with long term diversions in place.

Ground preparation works to strengthen the ground for heavy machinery
Tunnelling and shaft construction for sewer relocations and drainage
Trenching for power relocation works
Piling for new retaining walls and noise walls

What to expect

Traffic controllers and signage, including intermittent stop and hold arrangements for pedestrians and cyclists
Construction vehicles and equipment in the area
Moderate levels of noise, dust and vibration at times
Use of water carts and street sweepers to manage dust and mud tracking

Activity

Day works:

Establishing work sites and installing temporary fencing
Installing temporary noise walls and removing sections of existing noise walls

Day and night works:

Tree and vegetation removal

Sewer testing and relining
