We're completing the M80 Ring Road in Greensborough including a seamless connection to North East Link.

From November 2024 until April 2025, we’ll start works to realign the Greensborough Highway and Elder Street intersection west by approximately 20 metres, to build the new Elder Street landscaped bridge and connect it to the North East Link tunnels. Once realigned, the intersection will maintain its current functionality.

Upcoming works

From 7pm, Tuesday 19 November, you’ll see construction activity at the Greensborough Highway and Elder Street intersection on weeknights and over 2  weekends in November and December. A third weekend of work is scheduled for early 2025. We’ll contact residents nearby who may be impacted by works.

To complete works, there’ll be a reduced speed limit of 40km/h and lane closures in place along Greensborough Highway between Nepean Street and Watsonia Road. Access in and out of Elder Street will be maintained, however there will be restricted movements at times. Please follow signed detours, on road signage and directions from traffic controllers.

We’ll be working day and night behind barriers in the old Watsonia Station car park to finish earthworks and get ready to shift the northbound lanes.

What we'll be doing

Key activities within our worksites will include:

• Excavation and ground levelling to install drainage, investigate ground conditions and relocate utility services in preparation for the site construction
• Installation of temporary traffic barriers, fencing, and lighting to ensure safety around the worksite
• Roadworks to remove and lay asphalt, paint new line markings and signage installation
• Foundation preparation such as boring holes and pouring concrete to construct the landscaped bridge
• Modifying existing road infrastructure, including relocating traffic lights, light poles, traffic islands, kerbs, and median strips.

What to expect

During these works, you may experience:

• Noise, light, dust, and occasional vibration during work hours, depending on the activity
• Increased presence of workers, construction vehicles, and heavy machinery in the area, including on local roads
• Deliveries of materials and equipment to and from the worksite, possibly occurring outside of regular hours.

We'll be working both day and night to complete these tasks as efficiently as possible while minimising disruption to the community. We’ll work from:

• Day works 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and 7am to 1pm on Saturdays
• Night works 6pm to 7am, Sunday to Friday
• Weekend works 6pm Friday to 7am Monday

Where we need to undertake night works near homes and businesses, we'll provide advance notice of where and when we'll be working.

Traffic changes in your area

As traffic conditions will change, please follow all signage and directions from traffic controllers. Short delays are expected, please plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

There will also be changes to the pedestrian crossing at Watsonia Station, near the Elder Street intersection. Access will be maintained to the Watsonia Road Shops at all times.

• Implementing environmental controls to prevent dust and water runoff
• Containing workforce parking within designated worksites.
