10 September 2024

We’re completing the M80 Ring Road in Greensborough including a seamless connection to North East Link.

Before major construction can begin in some locations, we need to work on local streets, roads and paths to relocate underground and overhead utility services including power, water, sewerage, telecommunications and gas. Utility service providers will advise affected properties before any required planned outages.

What we'll be doing

Works will gradually move through local streets, roads and paths in stages with activities including:

  • placing traffic barriers, fencing and lighting to establish temporary works areas
  • cutting into asphalt and concrete on roads and paths
  • digging and drilling works for utility services located underground
  • installing and connecting new utility lines, such as cables and pipes
  • removing and disconnecting redundant utility lines and other materials
  • laying asphalt, line marking and concrete to reinstate roads and paths
  • working at heights for utility services located overhead.

Where and when we’ll be working

From mid-September to late 2025, we’ll be working on streets, roads and paths in Watsonia and Greensborough. Please refer to the map below for temporary works areas.

  • Day works will happen from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and 7am to 1pm, Saturday.
  • Night works will happen from 6pm to 7am, Sunday to Friday.
  • Weekend works will happen from 6pm Friday to 7am Monday.

What to expect

As we do these works you may notice:

  • varying levels of noise, light, dust and intermittent vibration during work hours
  • materials and equipment deliveries to and from works areas, including out-of-hours via local roads
  • AK Lines Reserve and Gabonia Avenue Reserve site compound operations, including construction traffic access
  • planned outages to utility services, with more information provided to affected properties
  • electricity meter inspections on private property to support planning work
  • temporary arrangements for council bin collection.

Access changes in your area

Road and path closures

As works gradually move through the area, there will be closures on streets, roads and paths at various times. Traffic conditions will be changing, so please follow all signage and directions from traffic controllers.

Local access only on Greensborough Road

Greensborough Road will be a no through road with local access only and side road closures in sections between Santon Street and Temby Street.

Detours for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians using nearby local roads will ensure everyone can safely move about the area.

Property access for residents will be maintained in closed sections but on-street parking will not be available.

Private driveways and on-street parking

Properties will not be able to access private driveways and on-street parking when works are happening nearby.

This is necessary for everyone’s safety and will allow works to be completed as quickly as possible before they move on to a new location.

We’ll speak with impacted local businesses, residents and schools to provide more information ahead of works moving through the area.

Managing construction impacts

We carefully manage our works in line with the project’s strict requirements, including:

  • informing local businesses, residents and schools when working nearby
  • guiding drivers, cyclists and pedestrians with signage, detours and traffic controls
  • securing works areas with fencing and traffic barriers
  • checking construction noise, dust and vibration levels with real time monitoring
  • minimising light spill with targeted lighting
  • preventing dust and water runoff with environmental controls
  • retaining trees and root systems within protected areas.

You can call our community relations team at any time on 1800 105 105 if you have any questions. We appreciate your patience and understanding during these works.
