4 December 2025

We’re completing the M80 Ring Road, delivering new lanes through to Plenty Road and a seamless connection to the North East Link tunnels – taking 19,000 cars and trucks a day off Greensborough Road and giving local roads back to local people

What you need to know

In late October, we completed a 30-day rail and road blitz at Grimshaw Street east. During works, crews built the eastern foundations for the Grimshaw Street Interchange road bridge and extended the rail tunnel under Greensborough Highway to around 500 metres.

Until mid-December, we'll continue building the western foundations for the new Grimshaw Street Interchange road bridge and a new walking and cycling underpass between AK Lines and Trist Street reserves. The new underpass will create safer journeys for pedestrians and cyclists by directing them under Grimshaw Street.

Work is also continuing behind the barriers on the M80 Ring Road and Greensborough Bypass as we build the new M80 Ring Road Interchange and ramps.

From late February to late March, Elder Street will be closed between Greensborough Highway and Frensham Road. This will give us space to start the new landscaped bridge and finish the permanent northbound and southbound lanes on Greensborough Road.

Holiday season site closure

The M80 Ring Road Completion project will shut down for the holiday period, from Friday 19 December 2025 to Monday 12 January 2026.

Some construction sites will have crews return to work sooner, on Monday 5 January 2026.

Managing construction impacts

We manage our works responsibly in line with strict project requirements including:

  • using clear signage and traffic controls to safely guide drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians
  • securing worksites with fencing, barriers, and safety measures
  • monitoring and managing noise, dust, and vibration levels in real time
  • minimising light spill with carefully directed lighting
  • implementing environmental controls to prevent dust and water run-off
  • containing workforce parking within designated worksites.

What to expect

What to expect while we are working:

  • machinery, equipment and vehicle noise, light, dust, and occasional vibration at times
  • deliveries to worksites, including outside of standard work hours
  • light and heavy vehicle movements on local streets
  • lane, ramp and road closures.
