8 May 2025
From 12 May until July, we'll be upgrading the pedestrian bridge over Lower Plenty Road between Cantala Avenue and Silk Street.
Upcoming work on the Silk Street pedestrian bridge will provide a safer, more accessible crossing for pedestrians by creating more space between the road and bridge, updating railings and improving road signage.
What we're doing
We'll work Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm, and Saturdays from 7am to 1pm, works will include:
- Constructing a new concrete pier barrier
- Replacing the main pedestrian bridge span
- Upgrading safety railings and signage
- Using road saws, a vacuum truck and excavators
We may need to work outside of these hours at times, impacted residents will be notified before works start.
What to expect
During this time, changes to Lower Plenty Road include:
- The far left westbound lane on Lower Plenty Road between Greensborough Road and Cantala Avenue will be closed.
- Cantala Avenue will be closed at Lower Plenty Road. Local access will be maintained and detours in place.
- Delays of up to 15 minutes may be experienced at peak times.
In July, over 2 weekends during school holidays, Lower Plenty Road will be closed in both directions between Greensborough Road and Cantala Avenue.
We'll keep you updated on the upcoming closures via notifications and on-road signage.
Silk Street pedestrian bridge closures
The Silk Street pedestrian bridge will be closed at times to complete the upgrade works, including for the entire month of July. Pedestrian detours will be in place.
Bus stop relocation on route 513 Glenroy via Lower Plenty Road
From the last service on Monday 12 May until late July, the route 513 bus stop on Lower Plenty Road at Cantala Avenue will be relocated (approximately 75 metres away) towards Rosanna Road.
Bin collection and residential driveway access
Bin collection services for some residential areas along Cantala Avenue and Lower Plenty Road will be temporarily relocated. Access to some residential driveways will also be impacted. We'll contact impacted residents directly.
Managing impacts
You may experience some noise, dust and vibration during these works. We'll minimise impacts as much as possible.
