Linewide Project Summary
Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) will deliver a 90km rail line linking every major train service from the Frankston Line to the Werribee Line via Melbourne Airport, better connecting Victorians to jobs, retail, education, health services, and each other. SRL is more than a transport project – as Australia's largest housing project, it will help reshape how our city grows in the decades ahead.
SRL East will deliver twin 26km tunnels and 6 new underground stations at Cheltenham, Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill. It will also include a train stabling and maintenance facility to support the new rail line, an emergency support facility and power supply substations. SRL East has been under construction since 2022 and will be open in 2035.
The Linewide Package comprises the design, construction, installation, manufacture, integration, testing and commissioning of Linewide assets (including rolling stock, rail systems, Linewide systems, the train stabling facility, and the emergency support facility), as well as the operations and maintenance (O&M) of the SRL East rail network.
To deliver the Linewide Works, SRLA formed the Linewide Alliance with John Holland, KBR, WSP, Alstom Transport Australia Pty Ltd and TransitLinX Pty Ltd. The Linewide Alliance is responsible for delivering a fully integrated railway, incorporating all other SRL East Package works, and undertaking operational readiness activities.
Other SRL work packages include Development, Initial and Early Works, Stations South, Stations North, Tunnels South and Tunnels North.
