Building the new connections linking West Gate Tunnel to the city and CityLink
As part of critical work for the West Gate Tunnel Project, we need to close the road at Dynon Road Bridge over the rail lines for four weeks. This road closure will help ensure the safety of everyone in the area as we undertake important work to widen and strengthen the existing bridge as part of building new connections from the West Gate Tunnel to the city and CityLink.
The road closure is required so we can set up temporary scaffolding, build a crane to install new beams, carry out bridge widening work, construct new barriers, use high pressure water to remove concrete from the existing bridge, and pour new concrete.

What to expect and when
From 10pm on Saturday 26 November to 7am on Thursday 22 December 2022, Dynon Road will be closed between the CityLink inbound exit ramp and Dryburgh Street, North Melbourne. Completing this work over the course of a month will allow us to finish sooner and safer, minimising extended impact on local communities.
At times, there will be temporary closures of the rail lines below the bridge. Buses will replace trains on sections of the Craigieburn and Upfield lines at various times in late November and December. During this time, train replacement buses will operate from North Melbourne Station. Plan ahead at Public Transport Victoria.
If you live close to Dynon Road, you may hear construction noise during the day and at night. We’ll be monitoring impacts to ensure they’re kept to a minimum, and we will work closely with local residents and businesses to respond quickly to queries and requests about noise. Detours, traffic management and signage will be in place to guide road users, cyclists and pedestrians during the closure.
