Works notification
Works to construct the new bridges across the Maribyrnong River are continuing. The bridges will link the West Gate Tunnel to the elevated roadway above Footscray Road.
From late March, the project delivery team will be implementing traffic changes along Maribyrnong Street and Lyons Street to accommodate the next stage which will be in place for the next 24 months.
This will include:
- relocating a gas main
- setting up a crane pad for installation of bridge beams
- preparing the bridge beams for installation. These activities will be completed in stages to facilitate bridge construction over the next two years. Stage 1 of the works will involve traffic changes including:
- a full closure of Lyons Street at Maribyrnong Street intersection, including the pedestrian path
- local business access will be maintained through traffic management arrangement
- removal of on-street parking spaces on Maribyrnong Street (51) and Lyons Street (38)
- narrowing of the Maribyrnong Street carriageway south of Parker Street to 6.3m.
Parking around Maribyrnong Street
When planning these works, an independent on-street car parking survey was conducted recently to review parking availability around the Maribyrnong Street work site. This took place on a typical working day and a weekend outside of the school holiday period. During the survey, number of parking and loading zone spaces available remained above peak demand, and the upcoming proposed changes to Maribyrnong Street are being managed to minimise the impact on the existing on-street parking network. From the survey, the peak parking demand during a weekday is 450 spaces and nine loading zones spaces.
Following the proposed changes and removal of 89 car parking spaces and one loading zone space for construction activities, an on-street parking supply of 478 parking spaces and 19 loading zone spaces will remain. Below is a map with alternative all day and 4 hour parking locations within 500m.
