5 August 2022 to 31 December 2022
Building the new bridges over the Maribyrnong River
Works will commence along Maribyrnong Street for the construction of new bridges over the Maribyrnong River. The bridges will connect the new West Gate Tunnels and the elevated road above Footscray Road and provide direct access to the Port at Mackenzie Road.
What to expect and when
From Monday 22 August 2022, preparatory works will begin north of Parker Street, along Maribyrnong Street to allow for the arrival of the steel girders that will be used to build the new bridges. From late August to 30 November 2022, once the site has been prepared, the steel girders will be transported to the site, prepared for lifting and then lifted and placed into their final position above the Maribyrnong River.
This will require intermittent closures of this section of Maribyrnong Street for this period, see below for further information.
