Extending the current closure period of Maribyrnong Street to build the new bridges over the Maribyrnong River
Works are continuing along Maribyrnong Street in Footscray to build new bridges over the Maribyrnong River for the West Gate Tunnel Project. The bridges will connect the new tunnels with an elevated road above Footscray Road and provide direct access to the Port at Mackenzie Road.
So we could carry out the works safely, we needed to occupy 110 carpark spaces along Maribyrnong Street from December 2022, 25 Carpark spaces were reinstated on 27 February and a further 46 carpark spaces were reinstated on 17 March 2023, meaning 71 parking spots are now available in this section of Maribyrnong Street.
What to expect and when
From Saturday 25 March 2023, we need to extend the current closure period of Maribyrnong Street. 39 carpark spaces will be required until end of works in Late-July, meaning 71 parking spots will be available in this section of Maribyrnong Street. 25 reinstated on 27 February and 46 reinstated on 17 March 2023.
Following this, we expect that all remaining car parks will be reinstated along Maribyrnong Street.There will also continue to be one way access south of Parker Street along Maribyrnong Street from 25 March to late-July.
We’ll continue to have traffic management including controllers and signs in place to guide traffic through the area. The map in the notification indicates the reinstated parking spaces and their access point. We’ll continue working with local businesses to help employees, customers and visitors move safely through the area and understand their car parking options.
