Closure of Maribyrnong Street between Parker Street and Footscray Road

We’re at work along Maribyrnong Street in Footscray to build new bridges over the Maribyrnong River for the West Gate Tunnel Project. The bridges will connect the new tunnels with an elevated road above Footscray Road and provide direct access to the Port at Mackenzie Road.

What to expect and when

From Thursday 1 December 2022, we’ll need to extend the closure of Maribyrnong Street from Parker Street to Footscray Road. This means that no parking will be available on this section of Maribyrnong Street.

This temporary closure is needed so we can ensure the safety of everyone in the area while we set up cranes, store steel beams and concrete panels, and undertake lifts to place the beams and panels into their final position above the Maribyrnong River.

These works are expected to be completed by late-March 2023, at which time car parking will be reinstated. Other work in the area is expected to continue until 2024.

There will also be one way access south of Parker Street along Maribyrnong Street from 1 December to late-March.

We’ll have traffic management including controllers and signs in place to guide traffic through the area. The notification shows the location of alternative car parking spaces.

We’ll be working with local businesses to help employees, customers and visitors move safely through the area and understand their car parking options.

Car parking spaces

So we can carry out the works safely, we need to occupy a total of 110 carpark spaces along Maribyrnong Street.

Businesses and residents who use the area will be provided with maps of alternative parking options.

Our construction workers will park within our worksites to help keep as many car park spaces open as possible.

We’ll reinstate carparking in the area from 22 December 2022 to 11 January 2023.

Parking along Maribyrnong Street will be reinstated once work is complete in late March 2023.

1 - 21 December 2022 and 11 January 2023 to late March 2023

Car parks in the area marked on the map will remain closed for the duration of these works.
