Constructing two new walking and cycling paths

Works are continuing around Moonee Ponds Creek (MPC) to allow for the construction of two new walking and cycling paths as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project. The first crossing is located just north of the Citylink offramp and the second crossing just south of Footscray Road. The walking and cycling path will give pedestrians and cyclists a safe, express route to and from the city.

What to expect and when

From late July 2022 until Monday 5 December 2022, vegetation removal, concrete pouring, crane installation, temporary walking and cycling path diversion and piling works will be occurring intermittently during the daytime.

Shuttle flow arrangement for walking and cycling path (using a stop and go electronic boom gate when working nearby):

On the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail, near Footscray Road, cyclists will need to dismount and traffic controllers will guide them through the area whilst tree clearing is underway.

New walking and cycling bridge - site establishment

A new temporary work site will be established south of the Footscray Road Bridge over the Moonee Ponds Creek for the construction of a new walking and cycling bridge.

The new bridge will take approximately 18 months to construct and will separate pedestrians and cyclists from vehicles on the existing bridge.

What to expect and when

From Monday 1 of August, vegetation will be cleared and then replaced in a small area adjacent to the Footscray Road Bridge over the Moonee Ponds Creek, as per consultation with relevant stakeholders.
