We’ll be working from Friday 1 December to Thursday 21 December 2023.

The West Gate Tunnel Project will carry out resurfacing, line marking works along Dynon Road, and the installation of a new pedestrian bridge over Moonee Ponds Creek.

What we'll be doing

From Friday 1 December to Thursday 21 December 2023 there will be traffic changes to Dynon Road, between Lloyd Street and Dryburgh Street. We need to make these changes so our crews can safely carry out resurfacing, line marking works along Dynon Road, lift segments of road decking for the new bridge above Dynon Road that will connect to Wurundjeri Way, and install a new pedestrian bridge over the Moonee Ponds Creek.

These resurfacing works are the pivotal final piece to the Dynon Road puzzle and will greatly assist in connecting up the new city connections to CityLink and provide additional flexible routes to the northern suburbs.

Works and impacts

Dynon Road – long-term lane change

Dynon Road between Lloyd Street and Dryburgh Streetwill be reduced to one lane in both directions from Friday 1 December to Thursday 21 December.

While CityLink between Footscray Road and Dynon Road is closed from 8–11 December, Dynon Road will re-open to two lanes in each direction. Dynon Road will then revert to one lane in both directions until Thursday 21 December 2023.

Dynon Road closed over a weekend

Dynon Road between CityLink and Dryburgh Street is due to be closed from 8pm Friday 15 December to 5am Monday 18 December.

Dynon Road – nightly closures

Dynon Road between Lloyd Street and CityLink will be closed at night from Friday 1 December to Wednesday 20 December.

Dynon Road – westbound closure

Dynon Road westbound closure, between the CityLink inbound exit ramp and Spencer Street closed 24/7 from 8pm Friday 1 December to 5am Monday 4 December 2023.

Changes to the way you travel

With the Wurundjeri Way and Dudley Street intersection opening earlier than anticipated, we expect traffic flow to significantly improve in the area.

Our traffic reports are suggesting Footscray Road as the alternative travel source, with the road also opening back up to two lanes of traffic earlier than initially predicted. While these closures are happening, we’ll continue to have traffic management in place, including signage and controllers to guide traffic through the area.

Remember to follow on-road signs and allow extra travel time during these impacts.

Please note, this work may be subject to approvals and permits, and may change due to site and weather conditions

Noise

During this time our teams will be working 24/7 so general construction noise may be heard.

There will be noisy hydro-demolition work from Friday 8 December to Friday 15 December 2023.

Depending on the type of works and their impacts, the West Gate Tunnel Project team will be in contact with residents directly to offer respite options.
