Traffic signalling, street lighting and resurfacing works on the Williamstown Road freeway interchange

The West Gate Tunnel Project is due to complete construction works to upgrade traffic signalling and street lighting under the West Gate Freeway Interchange and lanes on the inbound and outbound entry ramps.

When we’ll be working

We’ll be working from Monday 5 February to Saturday 10 February 2024.

Work hours are:Sunday to Thursday, 8pm to 6am Friday to Saturday, 8pm to 8am.

What we’ll be doing

We’ll be completing traffic signalling and street lighting and other construction activities nightly on the Williamstown Road freeway ramps and on Williamstown Road between Thomas Street and The Avenue, including the merging lane, at night.Impacts To safely complete these critical works, we need to:

  • Fully close Williamstown Road overnight.
  • Fully close the Williamstown Road freeway ramps overnight.

Additional Impacts

  • Construction activity and vehicles moving in and out of the area.
  • Lighting will be angled away from homes whenever possible when we’re working at night.
  • Any vehicle entering and exiting impacted driveway will be managed through the closure.
  • Intermittent low to medium-level noise at night.

Changes to the way you travel

  • While roads and ramps are closed, detours will be in place, so follow the on-road signs, check traffic media reports and drive carefully.
  • Please allow for extra travel time during these closures.

The Williamstown Road freeway interchange upgrades will allow for better connectivity for the west and they will help manage the flow of traffic through this area.

This work may be subject to approvals and permits ;and may change due to site and weather conditions.
