When we'll be working

We’re due to be working from the night of Friday 12 January to early-March 2024.

The West Gate Tunnel Project needs to carry out important works on the newly constructed bridge on Wurundjeri Way.

What we’ll be doing

There will be a continuous closure of Wurundjeri Way between Dudley Street and Bourke Street. Dudley Street will remain open during this time.

Scope of works

Now that we’ve laid the framework during the previous closure, our crews need to finish:

  • Pavement construction
  • Civil and drainage works
  • Traffic signal realignment works
  • Bridge superstructure works.

Additional impacts

Dudley Street – lane closure

During this time, a single lane closure on Dudley Street westbound will be in place.

Footscray Road – lane closures

During this period, there will continue to be impacts to Footscray Road. We’ll communicate directly with impacted businesses in this precinct on these closures.

After this closure, there may be further works to continue improving Wurundjeri Way. We’ll also need overnight closures and lane closures to enhance sections of road and pavement, install gantries and signs, install safety technology, and finish tying the extended road into the existing road.

Footscray Road – upcoming works

From mid-February, Footscray Road westbound will be closed between Docklands Drive and Waterfront Way. From late February to early March, Footscray Road will be closed in both directions between Pearl River Rand Docklands Drive.

These closures are required to construct the new walking and cycling path over Footscray Road. Further communication will be distributed early-2024.

Noise

You may notice minor construction noise, including intermittent noise at night.

Depending on type of works and if works are expected to create extra noise, the West Gate Tunnel Project team will be in contact with residents directly.

Changes to the way you travel

Motorists will be able to detour around the closure via Harbour Esplanade, Bourke Street, Spencer Street and Dudley Street.

Download the notification to view the detour route.

Throughout the closure, access to Marvel Stadium carparks will be maintained. Information on access to carparking will be distributed by Marvel Stadium.

While these closures are happening, we’ll continue to have traffic management in place, including signage and controllers to guide traffic through the area.
