Improved intersection with new traffic signals
We’re ready to open the new and improved Hyde Street/Douglas Parade/Simcock Avenue intersection on the 15 July 2023, with new traffic signals in operation.
The upgraded intersection will make it safer and easier to access Simcock Avenue, particularly for vehicles going onto the future outbound Hyde Street ramp to access the West Gate Freeway.
What you need to know
- A northbound lane has been built to make room for the new access point to the Hyde Street ramp.
- New traffic signals have been installed at the widened intersection and will improve visibility and traffic flow.
- The new widened intersection has left and right turning signals, pedestrian crossings, and traffic islands at the intersection, including new streetlights and line markings.
There are still some finalised construction activities that need to be completed at the intersection after opening such as permanent line marking and asphalting works. This will be completed at a later stage.
Now that the intersection has changed, please take extra care when driving through the area and be
mindful of altered traffic conditions.
Additionally, there will be a 24/7 closure of Simcock Avenue between Booker Street and Hall Street for the installation of drainage, pavement work, line markings, kerbing, and street lighting – due to begin mid-July and will continue until September. There will also be some overnight closures of the Simcock Avenue intersection with Hyde Street/Douglas Parade.
Please note, this work may be subject to approvals and permits and may change due to site and weather conditions. Works may be rescheduled in the event of unexpected impacts.
