Upcoming closures and construction impacts on Footscray Road, Dynon Road, Wurundjeri Way and CityLink

Significant progress will be made on the West Gate Tunnel Project between June and September, focusing on asphalting, pavement, surface and signage installation works. These activities are critical to improving traffic flow in the area, safety and getting the project closer to completion.

When we'll be working

We'll be working between June and September 2024.

Changes to the way you travel

  • During this time, businesses on Footscray Road and Sims Street will continue to operate.
  • Traffic management will be in place, including signage to guide traffic through the area./li>

Noise

You may notice construction noise, including intermittent noise at night. While the project endeavours to undertake noisier activities during the day, some works are required to occur at night, outside of peak traffic conditions.

Depending on the type of works and if works are expected to create extra noise, the West Gate Tunnel Project team will be in contact with residents directly.

Information for cyclists and pedestrians

From Tuesday 21 May to Sunday 30 June, there will be a continuous, full closure of the walking and cycling path along Footscray Road with temporary detours diverting users onto the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail.

From 8pm Monday 1 July to 5am Wednesday 24 July 2024, there will be a continuous closure of the The Moonee Ponds Creek Trail, between Dynon Road and Footscray Road.

During this period, cyclists and pedestrians will be diverted to use Dynon Rd, Footscray Road/ Docklands Highway and Arden Street detours.

The northern signalised pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Wurundjeri Way and Flinders Street will be closed from 5am Monday 1 July to 5am Monday 16 September to enable utility installation works. During this time, pedestrians will be detoured via the southern pedestrian crossing on Flinders Street.
