Update to closure dates of the eastbound carriageway

Footscray Road eastbound carriageway will close 24/7 from 8pm, Saturday 27 May to 5am, Friday 16 June 2023
Footscray Road westbound carriageway will open from 7am, Sunday 28 May.
Eastbound carriageway closure and changes to the walking and cycling path
We’re building the West Gate Tunnel Project to create an alternative to the West Gate Bridge and take trucks off local roads. As part of the project, an elevated road above Footscray Road is being built to create a link between the new tunnel and the city.
Work is progressing well, and over half of the new elevated road is now complete. We have been able to build it in the middle of Footscray Road while mostly keeping the road open for motorists.
Footscray Road eastbound and westbound disruptions
- The westbound carriageway of Footscray Road, between Dock Link Road and Appleton Dock Road will reopen on Saturday 27 May 2023, at 7am
- The eastbound carriageway of Footscray Road, between Dock Link Road and Appleton Dock Road will be closed from 8pm Friday 26 May to 5am Friday 16 June 2023.
To reopen the westbound carriageway, we need to fully close Footscray Road in both directions overnight on Friday 26 May, 8pm to 7am, please use Dynon Road for this period of time.
The westbound carriageway will be open following this night closure.
Footscray Road westbound traffic changes
Once the westbound carriageway re-opens, you’ll notice we’ve shifted the westbound lanes and walking and cycling path underneath the elevated road.
This lane shift allows us to create a new worksite on the existing lanes, but also helps keep the road
open and ensuring drivers, pedestrians and cyclists remain safe.
This newly formed worksite will allow our crew to begin constructing the new ramp which will connect Appleton Dock Road to the elevated road structure.
