22 May 2024

Update as of 12 June 2024:

The Footscray Road walking and cycling path between Shepherd Bridge and Pearl River Road will be continuously closed until 5am Sunday 30 June 2024.

The Moonee Ponds Creek Trail between Dynon Road and Footscray Road will now be closed from 8pm Monday 1 July to 5am Wednesday 24 July 2024.

Upcoming disruptions to walking and cycling paths

Over the coming months, the West Gate Tunnel Project will continue building the new 2.5km veloway bridge along Footscray Road. Additionally, minor construction will also be continuing across the project area until the end of the year, requiring both short- and long-term closures of Dynon Road, Moonee Ponds Creek Trail and Whitehall Street cycle paths.

When we’ll be working

From Tuesday 21 May to Thursday 5 December, there will be impacts to several of the walking and cycling paths between our Port to City zones.

Scope of works

  • Civil and drainage works
  • Installation of electrical frame on pylons<
  • Asphalting and pavement works.

We will also need to carry out some short-term walking and cycling path closures for smaller-scale works until project completion in 2025. We’ll provide more details about these works once the major ones are complete.

Noise

You may notice minor construction noise, including intermittent noise at night. Depending on the type of works and if works are expected to create extra noise, the West Gate Tunnel Project team will be in contact with residents directly

Changes to the way you travel

Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to detour around the relevant closures via suggested routes. Please see detours in the maps.

During this time, businesses will remain open along Footscray Road, Dynon Road, Wurundjeri Way and the Docklands Precinct.

While these closures are happening, we’ll continue to have traffic management in place, including signage and
traffic controllers as required, to guide traffic through the area.
