The West Gate Tunnel Project is due to complete works at the Newport Rail bridge.

When we’ll be working

8pm to 7am every Saturday from 14 December 2024 to end of May 2024 excluding Saturdays on long weekends.

What we'll be doing

Bridge structure works

The team will be refurbishing the existing steel beams of the Newport Rail bridge within the rail corridor. This involves the use of high-pressure hoses and spray coating
to repair and strengthen the existing bridge columns.

The team will also complete painting works of the bridge structure and beams.
This is noisy works and will take place during night shift to work in with train scheduling on the Newport rail line.

These works will take place between 8pm and 7am every Saturday night from 14 December 2024 to end of May 2025, excluding the following dates:

• Saturday 21 and 28 December 2024
• Saturday 4, 11 and 25 January 2025
• Excluding Saturdays on long weekend

Noise curtains will be used to decrease the noise levels. However, the noise from these works may travel to the wider community within the area. Noise modelling will be conducted, and we will be in touch directly with residents before and during the works where higher than normal construction noise levels are expected.

Access to all properties and sporting clubs will be maintained.

What to expect

• Noise at night from high-pressure equipment.
• Lights angled away from homes during night hours.
• Construction activity and vehicles moving in and out of the area.

We appreciate our work can be disruptive and thank you for your understanding. Please note, the timing of this work may change due to permits, site and weather conditions.

Additional works

We will additionally be conducting intermittent day and night noisy works within our worksites along the freeway throughout December until Christmas.
