When we’ll be working
24/7 from 9pm Sunday 13 July to late August 2025.
Work hours are day and night. Where we’ll be working Outbound on the West Gate Freeway and at the southern tunnel exit site near Millers Road, South Kingsville. We’ll also continue works on the West Gate Freeway during this time.
What we’ll be doing
As we move closer to completion at the end of 2025, we’ll be continuing major works at the outbound tunnel exit on the West Gate Freeway near Millers Road, South Kingsville and surfacing works along the West Gate Freeway between Millers Road and Williamstown Road.
To keep everyone safe during construction, long-term lane and ramp closures outbound on the West Gate Freeway will be required. Construction activities include:
- Cladding installation on the ventilation structure above the WGF.
- Tunnel exit and entrance works.
- Final freeway barriers, kerbing, drainage installation and barrier painting at the Williamstown Road outbound entry ramp and before Millers Road outbound exit ramp.
- Signage installation.
- Installation, testing and commissioning of freeway management systems.
- Graffiti removal.
Changes to the way you travel
- Traffic conditions will change throughout these works. Please be aware of advisory and speed signs.
- Vehicles will be diverted around the freeway works on to adjoining arterial so our crews can safely complete construction.
- Major delays of up to 30 minutes outbound on the West Gate Freeway and its ramps are expected.
- Check traffic conditions before you travel and consider alternative routes if the signed detour route is busy.
Impacts
- 24/7 construction activity and vehicles moving in and out of the area.
- Lighting will be angled away from homes whenever possible when we’re working at night.
- You may notice construction noise, including intermittent noise at night. Depending on the works, the West Gate Tunnel Project team will be in contact with residents directly.
- West Gate Freeway lane and ramp closures.
What’s upcoming
West Gate Freeway traffic impacts
From 9pm Sunday 13 July until late-August there will be lanes and ramps closed on the West Gate Freeway outbound. For further information please see detour maps overleaf.
This work may be subject to approvals and permits and may change due to site and weather conditions. More information will be available at bigbuild.vic.gov.au/disruptions closer to the time.
West Gate Freeway outbound impacts
- The West Gate Freeway will be reduced from four lanes to three lanes.
- One outbound express lane along the West Gate Freeway between Williamstown Road and Millers Road will remain open to travel directly to the M80 interchange and Princes Freeway.
- Two entry/exit left lanes travelling through to Millers Road, Grieves Parade and the M80 interchange will remain open.
Allow an extra 30 minutes’ travel time.
