Outbound on the West Gate Freeway from the West Gate Bridge to Millers Road.

What we’ll be doing

As we move closer to completion at the end of 2025, we’ll be carrying out major works over a weekend on the West Gate Freeway between the West Gate Bridge and Millers Road.

To keep everyone safe during construction, a full closure outbound on the West Gate Freeway will be required

Construction activities include:

• Removal of remaining temporary asphalt
• Final surfacing of the freeway and ramps
• Final line marking in some areas
• Installation, testing and commissioning of freeway management systems.

Changes to the way you travel

• Major delays of 2 hours+ outbound on the West Gate Freeway is expected. If travelling west, avoid using West Gate Bridge.
• Traffic conditions will change throughout these works. Please be aware of advisory and speed signs.
• Vehicles will be diverted around the freeway works on to adjoining arterial roads so our crews can safely complete construction.
• While roads and ramps are closed, detours will be in place, so follow the on-road signs and drive carefully.
• Check traffic conditions before you travel and consider alternative routes if the signed detour route is busy.

Impacts

• 24/7 construction activity and vehicles moving in and out of the area.
• West Gate Freeway lane and ramp closures.

West Gate Freeway outbound impacts

• All outbound lanes will be closed from the West Gate Bridge to Millers Road.
• Williamstown Road outbound entry ramp will be closed until 5am 1 September. Use Millers Road to enter the freeway instead.
• Todd Road outbound entry ramp will be closed.
• If travelling west, drivers should avoid the West Gate Bridge and exit early at King Street and follow Lorimer Street and West Gate Freeway detours.

Allow 2+ hours' addtional travel time.
