Ballarat local bus stops will return to the Ballarat Station bus interchange from Sunday 1 March, as work on the Ballarat Station accessibility upgrade nears the finish line.
Crews have been busy improving accessibility at the station by building a new pedestrian overpass with lift and stair access to both platforms, and upgrading accessibility at the northern station entrance.
Temporary bus stops on Lydiard Street will close after the last service on Saturday 28 February.
Bus layover bays will remain on Nolan Street and Railway Parade until April 2026, when construction on the new Ballarat Station pedestrian overpass is finished.
The overpass will make it easier and safer for all commuters to cross between the platforms and includes lift and stair access to both platforms.
People with disability, and those carrying luggage or pushing a pram will no longer need to leave the station to cross the rail line via Lydiard Street.
The overpass was lifted into place in November last year, following the opening of a newly upgraded, accessible northern station entrance in August, which makes it easier to access the bus interchange and multideck parking in the station precinct.
Crews have spent the past 2 months installing the glass in the lifts, lift shafts and the ‘belvedere’ balconies – elevated viewing areas with glass walls in both lift landings.
