The underpass being built as part of the new West Tarneit Station now features a glossy, green finish, adding a vibrant touch of colour to the new station precinct.
About 526 green tiles were installed for the rail underpass walls throughout April and May.
The tiles were incorporated into the underpass design following community consultation showing locals wanted more colour to feature in their new station precinct.
Crews have also started grading for the station’s new car park, installed kerbs and are preparing for major signalling work later this month.
If follows earlier works to install more than 100,000 tactiles and roof canopies on the new platforms and construct a new Parkiteer.
The brand-new station being built near the corner of Davis and Leakes roads will have pedestrian and cycling connections for the growing Tarneit community and will be future proofed for additional connections through the area.
In addition to the 400-space car park, a new bus interchange on the southern side of the rail line is under construction, which will be accessible via Leakes Road and a new signalised intersection at Heartlands Boulevard.
When completed, the landscaped precinct will also feature seating options, and more than 17,000 native trees, plants, shrubs and grasses, including wattles, correas, bottlebrushes and flowering gum tree.
The new West Tarneit Station will open later this year, helping to ease pressure on nearby Tarneit Station and improving access to transport in Melbourne’s west.
