Laying the ground to boost transport in West Tarneit

Work is progressing on 400 new car parking spaces and a new bus interchange at Melbourne’s soon-to-be, newest train station.

The brand new West Tarneit Station being built on the Geelong Line will  improve access to transport in Melbourne’s fast-growing west and help to ease pressure on nearby Tarneit Station.

Located near the intersection of Davis and Leakes roads, the new station includes a 4-bay bus interchange, car park and pedestrian and cycling connections to local streets.

Crews have spent the past week laying 1620 tonnes of hot asphalt – heated to 170 degrees Celsius – across 11,410 square metres of the future car park and bus interchange south of the rail line.

The asphalting follows months of works to build the station’s 2 platforms, shelters, underpass, entrance and stairs.

Earlier this year, works wrapped up on installing more than 500 vibrant green tiles that were incorporated into the underpass design following feedback from locals that they wanted colour to feature in the station precinct.

Crews have also installed more than 1.78km of new cabling to service 5 new train signals and 7 new train safety systems.

West Tarneit Station will open later this year, featuring seating and more than 17,000 native trees, plants, shrubs and grasses across the precinct, including wattles, correas, bottlebrushes and flowering gum trees.
