The newest train station on the state's rail network has opened to passengers for the first time on Sunday 13 September.
West Tarneit Station is now servicing the booming western suburbs and helping to ease pressure on the existing Tarneit Station by providing better access to public transport.
It is the first brand-new station added to the Victorian rail network since the five Metro Tunnel stations opened to passengers in November last year.
The station opening follows the roll out of additional 9-car V/Locity services to Wyndham Vale, boosting capacity by 50% on peak services.
More than 1100 services were also added to the local Tarneit bus network in August. A new Route 186 bus will operate daily services between Tarneit Station and West Tarneit Station via Dohertys Road, improving connections for communities north of the station.
For residents further south, the existing Route 182 from Tarneit to Werribee stations will run more frequently and will also travel via the new West Tarneit Station.
West Tarneit Station includes 400 car spaces, a 4-bay bus interchange, and cycling and pedestrian links to the local community. A 26-space Parkiteer and 30 bicycle hoops have also been installed for cyclists.
Located near the corner of Davis and Leakes roads, the station is accessible via a new access road off Leakes Road, or paths connecting to Modern Crescent to the south and Ceremony Drive to the north. It has also been future proofed for Tarneit's continued growth on the northern side of the station.
Crews will continue landscaping works across the station precinct over the coming months, which will feature more than 65,000 native trees, plants and grasses, seating, and separated walking and cycling pathways.
