Crews have wrapped up a 24-7 construction blitz to install rail signalling for the brand-new West Tarneit Station that will service Melbourne’s growing west.
The new signalling system installed during the 4-day construction blitz will help integrate the new West Tarneit Station into the rail network and ensure services can operate safely when it opens later this year.
While trains weren’t running, crews also took the opportunity to progress work on the station platforms, cycling and pedestrian pathways, the station entrance and drainage channels, kerbs and pavement around the station precinct.
More then 1.78km of new cabling was installed by crews to service 5 new train signals and 7 new train safety systems in Tarneit’s west.
The new West Tarneit Station will help ease pressure on nearby Tarneit Station and improve access to transport for the local community.
The station precinct includes a 4-bay bus interchange and a 400-space car park for passengers on the southern side of the rail line.
The car park and bus interchange will connect to the northern side via a new pedestrian underpass, and an accessible ramp.
Landscaping around the station will also start in the coming weeks, with completed precinct set to feature seating and more than 17,000 native trees, plants, shrubs and grasses, including wattles, correas, bottlebrushes and flowering gum trees.
