Since the start of April, construction crews have been working to build the foundations for the new High Street, Reservoir rail bridge.
This work involves drilling down and creating reinforced concrete piles underground, which can be up to 28m deep.
With the foundations almost done, works have now started on the piers that will support the new rail bridge. You will see the piers being built alongside the rail over the coming weeks as the rail bridge starts to take shape.
To make way for piers to the north of the High Street intersection, 2 of the 6 boom gates at the level crossing were removed early in the morning on Friday 24 May.
The boom gates were removed from the southbound left-turn lanes on High Street, which are closed until the end of the year.
The intersection’s remaining 4 boom gates continue to operate as normal. We’ll take these down as the project continues and we get closer to removing the Reservoir level crossing for good.
