Final designs revealed for Ballarat Station Upgrade

The final designs for the Ballarat Station Upgrade have been revealed, featuring a range of accessibility improvements for passengers, while preserving the heritage of the transport precinct.

Accessibility will be greatly improved, with a new pedestrian overpass and passenger lift and stairs on each platform.

Access to the existing northern station entrance will also be upgraded, with a new ramp and stairs, automatic sliding door and improvements to lighting and tactiles.

The final design for this upgrade has been informed by community feedback from more than 730 survey responses.

The overpass colour palette has also been changed to make it more resistant to discolouration from dust and dirt.

These upgrades will respect the historic value of this precinct, and make it easier for people with a disability, as well as passengers with prams and luggage, to get around the station and use public transport.

The release of the final designs follows community consultation and engagement with Heritage Victoria and the Office of the Victorian Government Architect.

These works build on the Ballarat Line Upgrade, which delivered an extra 135 weekly services for Ballarat and growing communities along the line, with trains now running every 20 minutes during peak times.

The Level Crossing Removal Project is delivering the Ballarat Station Upgrade in partnership with the Department of Transport and Planning.

The project is set to be completed in 2026, with construction beginning next year.
