Big fuel savings at Clyde Road

Back to Newsfeed

Christmas has come early with a delivery of environmentally friendly battery boxes to our Clyde Road, Berwick level crossing removal site.

By pairing ‘Grid to Go’ 8kVA hybrid batteries with our three biodiesel-fuelled Shidaiwa generators on site, we’re drastically reducing generator fuel use by up to 91.7%.

This helps us reduce our carbon footprint, lower costs and cut noise pollution for the local community and for the safety of our workers.

Without the batteries, our 3 generators would be required to run around the clock for 10 weeks to power our dewatering pumps.

But with them, it means the generators only need to run for up to 2 hours a day to charge the battery.

It's similar to how a hybrid car works – the battery power is always there ready to be used, but if the car's battery power is running low, the petrol-powered engine kicks in to help.

Using this system means our Clyde Road team can use battery power and charge up the batteries, rather than running a fuel generator every time electricity is needed.

This is great news for both the local community and our workers.
