Brunt Road boom gate free by 2024

The dangerous and congested level crossing at Brunt Road, Beaconsfield will be removed a year ahead of schedule with works to be completed in 2024.

A new road bridge is being built over the Pakenham Line to permanently separate vehicles and trains, improving safety and easing congestion for local drivers. It will reduce congestion for the 8400 vehicles that pass through the level crossing each day.

We are also improving walking and cycling connections across the rail line.

The project team has been busy completing piling works, continuing earthworks, relocating underground services and building the foundations of the bridge walls.

Over the coming months, the road bridge structure will start to take shape as we continue installing the 160 retaining walls and begin to place 20 concrete bridge beams.

In 2024, Brunt Road will be boom gate free, and the road bridge will open for vehicles and pedestrians.

It will bring the Pakenham Line one step closer to being level crossing free by 2025 and, along with the opening of the Metro Tunnel, help create capacity for an additional 121,000 peak hour passengers every week.

In total we are removing 110 level crossing across Melbourne, with 72 already gone for good.
