The construction industry’s approach to diversity continues to improve, according to one of our Senior Project Manager’s with nearly 20 years of experience.

Senior Project Manager Gosia Suchorska, who heads up the Level Crossing Removal Projects at Robinsons Road, Deer Park and Fitzgerald Road, Ardeer, said she’d witnessed the progression first hand.

Gosia arrived in Australia from Poland in 2003 and has worked in a variety of roles since. This includes as a receptionist, junior estimator, engineering assistant, site engineer, acting project manager and now senior project manager.

Leading a large team out in Melbourne’s west, Gosia has become an advocate for diverse workplaces in the construction industry.

'There have been large changes in the industry since I started 18 years ago,' Gosia explains.

'Our workplace encourages diversity, and we offer an environment where career progression is encouraged.'

It will be a busy 12 months for Gosia and her team as works continue forward to remove both level crossings to ease congestion in Melbourne’s west.

Robinsons Road will be removed by building a road underpass under the rail line. The level crossing at Fitzgerald Road will go by building a new road bridge. Major construction is well underway at these crossings, with both projects fast tracked for completion by 2023.

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
