Clyde Road continues green streak

The Clyde Road Level Crossing Removal Project continues its green streak, being recognised by Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC).

The project, where we removed the level crossing in early 2022, was recently awarded an ISC As Built rating of Leading with a score of 94.

Some highlights from the design included:

  • reduction of energy and carbon during construction by 49%
  • materials to construct the project, reduced by 57%
  • water use during construction and operation was reduced by 30% - the equivalent of 2.5 Olympic swimming pools
  • and improving the quality of stormwater following the construction of the project.

"The Clyde Road Level Crossing Removal Project has shown how a strong commitment to sustainability can see great outcomes for the completed project and local community", said Travis Edmonds, Program Director.

Clyde Road was previously recognised for its sustainability initiatives that helped reduce energy, carbon, and water including the use of solar-powered temporary light towers and harvesting water onsite for reuse during construction.

ISC Ratings are calculated by assessing sustainability elements, covering everything from environmental management, governance, stakeholder participation, climate change resilience, community health, and wellbeing. The ratings are scored out of 100, with 10 bonus points available for innovation.

Removing this dangerous and congested level crossing has made journeys safer for the community, including the 22,000 vehicles passing under the rail line every day.
