Construction coming to Aviation Road

Back to Newsfeed

Work is set to start at Aviation Road, with project designs now available to the community.

Announced earlier this year, the Aviation Road level crossing will be removed by building a new road bridge over the Werribee line – the best solution for this site following community consultation, planning and engineering advice.

The bridge designs have now been finalised and construction will start very soon.

To reduce disruptions to road and rail users, works to remove the level crossing at Aviation Road will happen by staging the delivery.

The first stage of the project will see the new road bridge built with on-road bikes lanes and a footpath, and a new shared use path along Maher Road as well as some improvements to the forecourt area on Triholm Avenue.

A pedestrian underpass connecting train commuters to Aircraft Station will be completed in the second stage. This will align with level crossing removal works in Werribee.

This staged approach will allow for trains to continue to run on the Werribee Line as the road bridge takes shape, with temporary rail shutdowns primarily limited to weeknight and weekend closures.

Find out more about the project designs and what to expect when construction kicks off by visiting the team at two upcoming community drop-in sessions.

The drop-in sessions will be held on Sunday 14 October between 2pm and 5pm, and on Wednesday 17 October 2018 between 5pm and 8pm at Laverton P-12 College (91 Bladin Street, Laverton).
