Works are starting to ramp up in Macleod, with crews recently completing a short construction blitz for the new rail bridge set to replace the dangerous and congested Ruthven Street level crossing.
While trains weren’t running on the weekend, crews worked around the clock to install underground services and upgrade rail infrastructure in the rail corridor. Four excavators were also on site during the 24/7 works blitz to prepare foundations for the new rail bridge.
Early works will continue with utility relocation works and traffic management in the area in August.
The Ruthven Street level crossing will be removed in 2027, boosting safety and eliminating nearly half an hour of boom gate down time in the morning peak, easing congestion for 12,600 drivers that travel through the crossing each weekday.
Final designs for the project were released in June, showing a new walking and cycling path along Ellesmere Parade that will create more than 2kms of safe off-road paths from Macleod to Rosanna.
The designs also include a new landscaped community space in Rosanna Parklands and a signalised pedestrian crossing on Ruthven Street near the rail bridge.
More than 25,500 trees, shrubs, flowering plants and grasses will be planted across the area, including a diverse range of native and indigenous species to complement the area’s existing landscape and geology.
