Evans Road design announced

The level crossing at Evans Road, Lyndhurst is being removed with a road bridge design.

Evans Road is one of 4 remaining level crossings on the Cranbourne Line, and will be the first to go.

Evans Road has been closed at the level crossing since 2005 for community safety. Despite this, there are reports of road users taking huge risks to access the other side of the rail line.

With upgrades to Hallam Road and South Gippsland Highway also underway, these projects will improve safety and traffic flow – slashing travel times for tens of thousands of people who rely on these roads every day.

The project will also restore a vital connection for the local community, giving drivers, pedestrians and cyclists easier access to facilities and services on either side of the rail line.

By reopening Evans Road, locals will save about 12 minutes for a round trip between Thompsons Road and South Gippsland Highway.

To coincide with nearby road upgrades, the Evans Road Level Crossing Removal Project has been fast-tracked, with construction to start this year and the level crossing to be gone by 2020.
