Four level crossings to be removed in Preston

Preston is set for major transport upgrades, with works commencing in early 2020 to remove four level crossings and build two new train stations.

Level crossings at Murray Road, Cramer Street, Bell Street and Oakover Road will be removed, making way for the 82,000 vehicles that travel through the crossings each day.

A two kilometre stretch of elevated rail will be built, making room for new community open space under the bridge.

The design will also straighten a section of the track, allowing for more trains to travel along the Mernda Line.

Brand new train stations at Bell and Preston will also be built as part of the project.

Works will begin in 2020 with the level crossings to be removed by the end of 2022. The open spaces will be completed by 2023.
