The removal of the dangerous and congested level crossing at Clyde Road, Berwick is a step closer with construction to start within 12 months.
Clyde Road is a key arterial road and the level crossing disrupts the flow of 22,000 vehicles that drive through it each day, with the boom gates down for more than a third of the morning peak.
This causes delays for emergency services travelling to Casey Hospital, thousands of people travelling to local schools, Federation University, Chisholm Institute and commuters using Berwick Station. The level crossing also causes congestion on nearby roads including the Princes and Monash freeways.
Construction to remove the Clyde Road level crossing will start in 2020 and the level crossing will be gone by 2022.
The local community is invited to learn about the project, provide feedback and share what is important to them at community drop-in sessions to be held on Wednesday 22 May and Saturday 25 May 2019.
