The new Glen Huntly Station has been awarded the Joseph Reed Award for Urban Design at the 2025 Victorian Architecture Awards, recognising its outstanding contribution to public infrastructure and urban connectivity.

Designed by COX Architecture in collaboration with Rush Wright Associates, the station sits prominently on Glen Huntly Road and features a spacious, light-filled design that connects seamlessly with the tram stop, active transport options, and local shopping precinct.

The judging panel praised the transformation from the old station – which was so constrained locals called the narrow exit the “snorkel” – to a connected, accessible, and beautiful station with an open forecourt.

“The complexity of the site at the start of the project has been so expertly resolved, the end result feels effortless for users,” the panel stated.

Delivered during a 4-month construction blitz in mid-2023, the station reflects the community’s desire for modern design that complements local architecture by incorporating materials such as bricks, light coloured granite and bluestone.

The station was opened in July 2023 as part of the Glen Huntly Level Crossing Removal Project, which removed 2 dangerous level crossings at Neerim Road and Glen Huntly Road, improving safety and reducing congestion.
