Have your say on Beaconsfield level crossing removal

Locals in Beaconsfield will soon benefit from a new road bridge over the Pakenham Line, with the removal of 2 dangerous and congested level crossings to boost safety in Melbourne’s east.

The community is invited to provide feedback on their vision and values for the level crossing removal at Station Street, which will improve safety, reduce congestion, and allow more trains to run on the Pakenham Line more often. The feedback will be used to inform the design of the road bridge and surrounds.

The boom gates at Station Street are down for 33 minutes on average during the morning peak when 25 trains pass through, causing delays for vehicles that use the crossing each day, particularly in peak periods.

The road bridge design means we can get rid of the crossing sooner and construction will be less disruptive for road and rail users.

The nearby level crossing at Station Street, Officer will be closed, improving the safety of the local road network by removing the risk of incidents between cars, trains and pedestrians. There have been 6 near misses at this crossing since 2012, with its closure set to boost safety.

For locals who use this level crossing regularly, access north and south of the Pakenham Line via the Siding Road underpass will remain open, around 450 metres east of Station Street.

These level crossings comprise 2 of 22 level crossings being removed as part of the $15 billion Pakenham Line investment. Nearby crossings at Webb Street, Narre Warren, and Progress Street, Dandenong South are among the next tranche of removals.

The community is asked to provide feedback on what they enjoy about the area and how they move around the Station Street, Beaconsfield and Station Street, Officer level crossings.

Visit the online hub at Engage Victoria to have your say by 11.59pm on Sunday 30 October.
