Hoppers Crossing road bridge cements 55 level crossings gone for good

Back to Newsfeed

The dangerous level crossing at Old Geelong Road in Hoppers Crossing has been removed months ahead of schedule, with a new road bridge open to drivers today.

The new 1.2km road bridge provides a direct connection from Old Geelong Road to Princes Highway, creating safer and more reliable journeys.

The level crossing has officially closed to drivers, however people traveling on foot or by bike will continue to cross over the rail line at the current pedestrian gates until the new pedestrian and cyclist overpass at Hoppers Crossing Station opens in 2022.

The boom gates at the former level crossing site will remain in place until they are removed in 2022, to reduce disruption for rail passengers.

Drivers are asked to take special care navigating the road changes and plan ahead for a safe journey.

Temporary travel changes will be in place while we finish upgrading nearby roads and intersections and build the new pedestrian and cyclist overpass at Hoppers Crossing Station in 2022.
