Inspiring early environmental champions at Brunt Road

More than 50 kids from a local early learning centre in Beaconsfield recently participated in a World Environment Day themed engagement session, as part of the Brunt Road Level Crossing Removal Project.

Our team organised environmentally themed activities for the Birches Early Learning Centre children, including decorating and planting their own take home planter boxes.

The kids enjoyed building their boxes – while our team chatted to them about the importance of protecting the environment on our projects – and were excited to see their plants grow at home.

The educators were pleased with the hands-on nature of the session and provided feedback that they’d been kept well-informed throughout the construction of the new Brunt Road bridge.

These sessions coincided with World Environment Day, which encourages worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment.

The new Brunt Road bridge is now open to traffic, with crews working in the area on landscaping and the planting of approximately 100 trees and 50,000 plants, shrubs and grasses until mid 2024.

With traffic flowing over the new road bridge, journeys are improved for the 8400 drivers passing through each day and the Pakenham Line is one step closer to being level crossing-free by 2025 – allowing more trains to run when the Metro Tunnel opens in 2025.
