Earlier this month our team worked day and night on the Kananook Train Stabling Yard upgrade, which will more than double the number of trains able to be stored at the facility.
During works, more than 15 tons of structural steel, which makes up the frame of the new train maintenance facility building, was installed. More than 230m of trenches, which make up the foundations of the rail lines in the stabling yard, were also dug. Works also included installing track and signalling infrastructure, drainage, electrical, and earth works.
Works will continue on the project throughout this year, and set to finish in 2025.
We're upgrading the Kananook Stabling Yard to allow for more trains to be stored at the facility, with the project increasing the capacity of the yard from 8 to 21 trains.
The new stabling yard will also include a train wash, a maintenance facility with space to work on 2 trains, and extra facilities for workers. The new yard will create more than 50 new jobs once completed.
The Frankston Line will be level crossing-free by 2029 with all 27 dangerous and congested crossings gone for good, and 17 new stations built, changing the way locals live, work and travel.
