A vibrant new transport hub is set to improve Lilydale with designs finalised for the new Lilydale Station and the surrounding precinct.
The designs have been finalised after concept designs released last year were strongly supported by the local community.
The new station will feature an iconic clock-tower, lifts, better disability access, lighting and CCTV. A canopy covering three-quarters of the station platform will provide shelter from the elements. It will produce 45% less carbon and use 70% less water. Concrete used in construction will have a high percentage of recycled material.
Soft, earthy tones, weathered steel, zinc and Coldstream stone will be applied to the new station in keeping with the community’s preference that it complements the local area.
The new station and the bus interchange will be built on the other side of the Maroondah Highway to better integrate with the town centre, while the existing Lilydale Station’s heritage value will be protected for a range of future uses. Walking and cycling connections will be improved and link to the Lilydale-Warburton Trail.
In line with overwhelming community support, a new open space will be created for the community to gather. Landscaping will see tens of thousands of trees, plants, shrubs, and grasses planted.

Work will ramp up over summer, as crews begin major construction. To enable these works, buses are replacing trains between Ringwood and Lilydale until Sunday 20 December and from Tuesday 9 February to Thursday 18 February. There will also be some local road closures and traffic detours in place.
The Level Crossing Removal Project is removing 75 level crossings, with 44 gone for good. The Lilydale level crossing will be removed in 2022.
