
The sound of the boom gates has been silenced at Station Street, Beaconsfield following the dismantling of the boom gates from the level crossing, which was removed in March.
The dangerous and congested level crossing was removed at Station Street, Beaconsfield with the opening of the new McKenna Drive bridge. The new bridge connects Beaconsfield Avenue to Kenilworth Avenue, permanently separating vehicles and trains and keeping traffic flowing in the Beaconsfield area.
The Station Street level crossing was the site of 3 near misses and one collision since 2012, with 25 trains travelling through the boom gates during the morning peak.
Crews have begun packing up the work site, including taking down site sheds, and will move out of the area in the coming months.
Landscaping and footpath widening is nearly complete, with approximately 80 Australian native and indigenous trees, and 75,000 plants and shrubs to be planted in the project area.
A community event will be held on Saturday 28 June in the Beaconsfield Station car park to celebrate the completion of major works for the Station Street level crossing removal project. The event will include activities for kids, free food and coffee and free steam train rides.
The removal of the Station Street level crossing contributes to a level crossing free Pakenham Line later this year, easing congestion and making local roads safer.
