The native Matted Flax-lily at Manchester Road, Mooroolbark is blooming with joy at being placed in the no-go zone during ongoing works.
Endemic to south east and west of Victoria, the Matted-Flax-lily (Dianella amoena) is a flowering plant that prefers grassy wetland and woodland habitat and can reach up to 90cm in height when flowering.
Considered endangered, there are estimated to be only about 1400 plants remaining in about 120 locations across the state.
Two clumps of the indigenous Matted Flax-lily have been identified directly adjacent to each other within our Mooroolbark project footprint.
To aid in the conservation of these blossoming beauties, our project ecologists have installed no-go fencing in the area.
In addition, underground cabling works that were originally going to be installed via trenching have been adjusted to a bore design that will ensure minimal impact on flora in the area.
