Hundreds of people attended Mont Albert Station on Sunday 23 October and celebrated the station’s 132-year-old history with the local community.
Congratulations to the Mont Albert Progress Association, Mont Albert and Surrey Hills Rotary Club and Bread Street Mont Albert, who organised the event and chartered a steam train to run shuttles from Mont Albert Station to Burnley and Blackburn stations.
The historic Mont Albert Station building will be re-homed close to its original position on a new heritage plaza connecting Beresford Street and High Street to the Hamilton Street shopping village.
The building will be carefully removed early in 2023, then repaired and reassembled once major works to remove the level crossings are completed later in 2023.
The Level Crossing Removal Project team attended the steam train event at Mont Albert where they spoke with interested community members regarding the removal of the 2 level crossings at Mont Albert Road, Mont Albert and Union Road, Surrey Hills.
