New footpath connection for Fowler Road

In good news for Dandenong South businesses, designs for the Progress Street level crossing closure have been updated to include a new footpath on Fowler Road that will improve safety and access to local businesses.

Informed by community feedback, the Fowler Road footpath will connect to existing paths in the area, and a footpath on the new road bridge connecting Progress Street to Fowler Road.

Connections will also be improved by the pedestrian crossing features being built as part of the new signalised intersection at South Gippsland Highway and Fowler Road.

The footpath will be built on the south side of Fowler Road, improving access and safety throughout the precinct.

As part of the design to close the Progress Street level crossing, parking will be indented on Fowler Road to further improve safety and accessibility for all road users. New lighting will also be installed to improve visibility, and the speed limit reduced to 50km/h for added safety.

The Greater Dandenong City Council will deliver the new footpath on behalf of the Level Crossing Removal Project, following the completion of the project.

Works are continuing on the road bridge that will connect Progress Street to Fowler Road over Eumemmerring Creek, allowing the Progress Street level crossing to be closed and the Pakenham Line to be level crossing free in 2025.

By removing 8 level crossings in the Greater Dandenong area, journeys will be safer for all road users and almost six hours of boom gate down time will be slashed each morning.
