New Hughesdale Station to open

Passengers will be able to use the new Hughesdale Station from Saturday 25 August following a final push from crews to get the station up and running.

Hughesdale is the 5th station to become operational under the Caulfield and Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Project which has already this year removed 9 dangerous and congested level crossings.

The modern station features a wrap-around canopy and better transport displays, replacing a 1970s-era brick building that was demolished in October 2017.

Up to date lighting, CCTV and waiting rooms will boost security and comfort for commuters.

While trains will stop and pick up passengers on elevated platforms, other amenities including toilets, secure bike parking and a ticket office will be conveniently located at ground level.

More logical transport links will also be integrated into a landscaped station precinct, including closer bus bays and drop off zones.

The canopy itself will feature deep green trimmings, part of a colour scheme designed to pay homage to the pottery of famous artist and local identity Arthur Boyd.

Lifts, escalators and the car park being are being opened progressively, with the first of the stations 2 lifts set to open by 3 September and the precinct will be largely complete by end of September.

The Poath Road level crossing was officially removed in June this year in line with the opening of a third and final section of elevated rail.
